What is Omega-3?
Omega-3 is a name that includes a group of fatty acids. These fatty acids are not created by the body, but they are essential for its proper function. These fatty acids come from two main sources:
1.) Vegetative source - sage oil, green leaves, and vegetable oils (ALA).
2.) Water source - from deep sea fishes and seaweed (EPA, DHA).

What are the disadvantages of water sources?
Most, if not all, Omega-3 supplemental pills come from a water source. This is of major concern and something that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) haswarned consumers. According to the FDA, due to the pollution of our oceans, consuming too much fish, or fish related products, can put one at risk for ingesting troublesome levels of mercury or PCB toxins. Furthermore, as stated by the Environmental Protection Agency, more than half of all freshwater fish it has sampled through their studies are viewed as unsafe for children less than 3 years of age. Thus, pregnant women and people with serious heart conditions are at risk of receiving troublesome levels if they consume Omega-3 supplemental pills from a water source. In turn, it is recommended by physicians that people be cautious when choosing an Omega-3 supplemental pill.
